We were engaged to work on the conversion and interior design and decoration of a traditional flint-knapped barn in East Sussex, to provide holiday cottage accommodation.
We worked closely with the local architects and contractors, to retain the original oak beams and flint-knapped walls, whilst taking in-house responsibility for the planning. We developed internal layouts and plans for our clients, who are the owners of the large farming estate.
We were responsible for designing all the kitchen and other architectural joinery within the house, before moving on to the interior design and decoration. The design drew inspiration from the rural farming landscape of the Sussex Downs, in particular using hand crafted furniture combined with traditional colours and contemporary patterned fabrics. We designed or sourced all fabrics, upholstery and furniture, whilst also considering the durability required to withstand the requirements of the busy holiday letting industry. The mood is designed to be comfortable and functional, whilst providing visual interest.
